Hope Haven Gospel Mission Receives 2010 Best of Lewiston Award
U.S. Commerce Association’s Award Plaque Honors the Achievement
NEW YORK, NY, May 12, 2010 — For the second consecutive year, Hope Haven Gospel Mission has been selected for the 2010 Best of Lewiston Award in the Individual & Family Services category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA).
The USCA “Best of Local Business” Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.
Nationwide, only 1 in 70 (1.4%) 2010 Award recipients qualified as two-time Award Winners. Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2010 USCA Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties.

Homeless Shelters: What You Should Know About Emergency Homeless Shelters

Homeless shelters have been around for many years, but have been called by different names. With foreclosures and job losses increasing, many people today are finding the need to find shelter for themselves and their families by using homeless shelters. People become homeless for many reasons, including economic hardship, domestic abuse, drug and alcohol abuse and sometimes for other reasons. This is currently becoming more common, as many of the extra programs and services are being cut due to lack of funding. Shelters usually are available to anyone, regardless of the reason for the need. Emergency housing at shelters can be long term, or may be just one night in an emergency situation.
How You Can Help Homeless Children

While most of us are enjoying modern day comforts, food, and pleasures in abundance, there are many around the world who are in need, suffering, and hungry. It is a sad sight to see any human being in this state; however, by far the most heart wrenching sight is a little child who is hungry, barely clothed, and living without things that we consider everyday necessities. Many have no health care, no education, little clothing, no toys, and barely enough food to stay alive. You may be surprised to know that this is happening not just across the world, but even in affluent countries such as America. What can you do to help make a difference? Here are a few tips to consider when attempting to help the homeless children.
Homeless Families Need To Be Given A Chance

For some, being homeless sounds like a nightmare – for others, being homeless is pure reality. How many of you have witnessed a homeless person holding a sign up on the side of the road? You try not to look at them, you try to look the other way – you do not want to look into their eyes. They notice that you are doing this. They know that you do not want to look at them. Some choose to shout mean things at them, like “get a job, ” or worse. They’re just people that are trying to survive. Sure, you live in a world where you get up each morning and go to work, then come back to your home. Yet, there are some that do not have this opportunity. They apply for jobs and get frowned upon. Not many employers give homeless people a chance to work for them. They are too afraid that they will take things from the company, when in all actuality, this may solve a lot of problems. In this day and age, we are seeing more and more homeless families walk into the shelters with nothing more than the clothes on their back and the shoes (if any) on their feet.
Homeless Shelters – Helping One Life At A Time

Each day, a tear falls from someone that is homeless. They feel as if they are no longer able to go about their life. They fall asleep each night beside a dumpster in an empty alley way, reeking from stench of the day, simply because they are not able to take a bath. They wonder what they did wrong in their life to deserve such treatment and loneliness. Thinking of the homeless men, women and children in America and other parts of the world makes our problems that are so big to us seem so small! Homeless shelters such as Hope Haven Gospel Mission exist, but there are not enough of them out there to cover every single homeless soul.
